Application Information

Applications for the Notary Education Program starting in January 2027 are being accepted through the application portal.

If you are an applicant who has completed a Canadian law degree or an international applicant who has completed a common law degree, please create an account.   Persons with civil law degrees are required to complete the SFU Master of Arts in Applied Legal Studies program or a common law degree.

Applicants who hold law degrees and who wish to become lawyers should visit the Law Society of BC website for more information.  All members of the Law Society are lawyers and notaries public.  Members of The Society of Notaries Public are non-lawyer notaries public and practice under the Notaries Act.  Please go to bclaws.gov.bc.ca to find up to date versions of both the Notaries Act and the Legal Profession Act and review the sections related to scope of practice and the practice of law for information about the difference.

All applicants will be subject to law enforcement and criminal record background verification, credit and financial background check, and identification verification.

The Notary Education Program is offered on an annual basis.

The application process is set out on this page here.
